The Documentary

AfroCuban Jazz was born in the late 1930's in East Harlem. And thanks to the efforts of passionate musicians as Bobby Sanabria and his students on Manhattan School of Music it is still alive.

La Clave (working title) is a documentary on Latin Jazz that is being filmed in New York City and investigates the relationship between the masters and young musicians in the process of passing on the tradition of music.

The film is directed by Celina Lerner, a Brazilian journalist and sociologist that makes documentaries since 1998. It started as a school project in The New School and now is an independent production.

In this blog, you can follow the work in progress and all the discussion that arises during the making of the film.  Comments and sugestions are welcome!

As Bobby Sanabria use to say: Ache!
